At Kare with Keke, I work from a strength-based perspective; as well as from a nuture over nature standpoint. I believe that homing in on a child's strength and increasing their use of said skill, helps foster confidence and good self-esteem.
The activites and programs featured are all meant to be inclusive for all and promote cooperation, while having fun. Now not all activities meet this goal (i.e, painting, writting, drawing- which are more personal activities), but I aim to schedule activities that all participants can join in on and have fun! With Covid-19 being such a growing concern, I will be accepting no more than one family at a time; as stated before my daughter is also apart of the childcare environment (your children + my one= no more than four children).
Art Expression:
This is an art based program where children are allowed to express or depict their emotions/feelings through art. Paintings and/or drawings are not subject to only emotions, children can express through whatever medium they choose, as well as make any piece of art. At the end, children are encouraged to go around and share their work with their fellow peers.
Yoga:
I found yoga to be a releasing and relaxing activity when I moved away for College. Throughout my pregnancy I adopted a few practices to help alleviate sciatic nerve pain. The practice I will build with the children, will work from their ability level and very basic to begin with. If all children wish to participate, it would be great, but I understand not everyone is confortable with something new and foreign to them.
Physical/Outdoor Activities:
All participants will go for a short natute walk in the neighborhood (social & physical distancing will be follwed; permission slips will be acquired beforehand). On this walk, we will look at all the changes in our enviornment, as well as complete a scavenger hunt of items we can touch and observe.
I love a good dance party, so does my daughter, so we can either dance it out to change the pace between activities and/or play freeze dance!
S.T.E.M Activities:
I quickly learned how much children love to make slime and do light baking, back at my time in the after-school program I was apart of. I will continue slime making, as well as baking days with the children, as long as there's no objections from their parent/gaurdians.
To make math and building towers more fun, I will provide layouts for ideally the tower should look, and the appropriate pieces to use. As for math, we will be making addition pizza, using the correct values to add together to make the pizza whole again! An educational chart as well as mini-chalkboard and mini-dry erase board, are also on hand, to practice number sequences and number recognition.
And More!
