The resources used by Keke, are a collection of services from Brantford/Norfolk region, spanning over to the Toronto/GTA region. Some key resources were omitted from the lists above, to deter from duplication.
St. Leonard's community Addiction and Mental Health services
~this resource is located in the Brantford Region, of Ontario. Keke was connected not only within their concurrent disprders counseling (mental health +addiction), but she also found great refuge within the day treatment program for women; along with their peer support. It was with working in conjunction eith these services, that Keke knew in her heart, that working with at-risl youth and children, was her passion and life-goal.
Centre for Addiction & Mental Health (CAMH)
~Although this organization has been under scrutiny for patients taking off, Keke included, their *SAPACY* program was a game changer for Keke. Instead of walking around pretending to be strong, she faced many cultural hurdles and adversity that lies within her cultural background. The SAPACY program is geared towards minority youth, who are struggling with their mental health, as well as addictions. CAMH runs a 12-week DBT, which is often a psychotherapy used with patients exhibiting borderline personality disorder (BPD), but successfully helps challenge not only one's thought pattern, but their behavioral pattern as well.
Julie Marquis (Trauma therapist)
~When Keke first met Julie, she wasn't sure of the impact that would come from these sessions. Over a short span of time, Julie aided Keke in recognizing her "buttons"- the sore spots within her. Uncovering the layers of abuse, she had to face, to understanding why she responded and behaved particular ways, ensured Keke that she was merely SURVIVING. The hard work would be what followed next, changing for the better.
Exercise
~The most talked about mood booster, is rarely used by those who can really use the endorphins. Keke began meditating, yoga and jogging while living in Brantford. After returning to Toronto, she fell into some bad habits, but quickly turned that pattern around. Downloading a step tracker helped keep Keke 'Honest' about the progress she was making, but also of changes she would've liked to see. She continues with her yoga and mindfulness lifestyle, aiming to be as present as she can be. Life and stress does get in the way from time-to-time, but refocusing her mind and energy helps get Keke through her days. Mind/matter= I don't mind, because ________ doesn't matter (not to say the problem or worry isn't important, but for the time being, it's not the most crucial/important factor)
The Youth Centre (CAREA)
~This organization now goes by the name Carea, and is located in Ajax, ON. Here you are able to meet with a counselor, see a registered nurse, as well as join in on the many various groups they have put together. This service aided Keke while she was homeless at the age of 16.
Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin
~This organization is geared to aide those with not only mental health issues, but those suffering concurrent disorders (alcoholism & mental health). I have been set up with the SMART Recovery group (online), which if I'm honest is the most relatable and sincere group I have been in. CMHA offers:
-Housing and Homelessness assistance
-Individual Support Services
-Youth Programs
-Group and Peer Support
-Education and Training
-Senior Support
-Family Services
